Third Year Reflections
Sometimes I feel lost being torn away from all that was familiar in my life. I don't know where anything is. The sum total of all my possessions is scattered between three houses and several garages. I haven't seen my home in Minnesota for two years and haven't been to Grand Portage in a year. Someone else lives in my home I spent over 20 years in. I haven't seen my second Mother, Lake Superior in a year. I miss her shining, big sea waters. I haven't seen my Children or Grand Children in what seems to be ages.
I wake up everyday and my first thought is, "Are we cooking today, or can I sleep in a while?" My second, "Where are we?" I'm not really sure where I am at any given time, I have to look out the window to check.
At this moment I'm half dressed, half combed and barely awake after yet another event. I've had the incredible luxury of a hot shower. Still, I ache from head to toe. Surely I must be crazy.
Then, Doyle brings me my first cup of coffee. He smiles at me and everything falls into place. I know where I am. I am with Doyle. That's all that is really important. All that really matters.

Pruning the Vous Vine
Ok, I'm on my stump and I'm hoppin' up and down, gesturing wildly. We've got to get this Vous Vine thing under control. A little judicious pruning is in order, starting with an incident that just occured to yours truly.....
We got a frantic phone call and more than a few emails over the last week from event planners across the country, seems someone has contacted all of these busy, overworked folks and informed them that we won't be attending any of our events this year. This happened last year too.. so just for the record:
Only Doyle schedules and/or cancels events for the kitchen. If you are reading this, you have been to our website and have our email, most event planners have our phone number...call us. We have every intention of attending every event we attended last year plus a few more.
One event in particular last year had camper cancellations because this helpful person told them we would not be there. People actually do depend on us for meals for their families. This person is not hurting just us, but everyone.
Advice to anyone who hears unfounded rumors: tell the person doing it to knock it off. Delete their emails and block thier phone number. No one needs this negative garbage.
One more very important point. We do not endorse nor recommend any person who may or may not have worked for us at any time, or claims to be a friend. When someone tries to get into an event using our name, call us immediatley and ask us. Hopefully while they are still standing in front of you. If they claim to have worked for us, why aren't they still with us? Would we toss out a good employee? NO! On the contrary, we need good people! We have had too many people we don't even know say they come with our blessings, and we don't even know them. Anyone who needs a recommendation is a bit suspect already, one should be able to stand on ones own merits and not banty about anyones name to be allowed to participate in an event.
A bit of general advice: If someone comes to you with second hand information, check it out before you believe it or pass that information on. When I say check it out, I mean with the persons involved, not just anyone in the general vacinity.
Lecture over...you may now go on with your business....

On our Way To Texas.....
Well, as if it isn't enough to have a web page, several email accounts and a blog...now I'm on face book. It was my sisters idea, a way to keep in touch with friends and family, though I hear some people even become quite obsessed with it. They just want friends...and more friends....
I contacted a few possible friends and am now sitting here a couple of hours later wondering why my facebook still says I have no friends. yep, says it right on my profile, "You have no friends". How depressing. I know it's only been a couple of hours, but you think at least my kids, (who are internet junkies and all have high speed 24 hour connections), would have seen my invite and said, "Wow! Mom's really hip now and I'll shoot my response right back to her, be her friend right away!" Not happening. I keep checking and it's been three hours and I'm still alone. No friends. Not even a comment. I have no friends.
I can see why this can get under your skin.

Welcome toTwo Eagles Kitchen Buzz!
We are currently in Florida, setting up for an event at Withlacoochie Park in Dade City. We winter here and love the folks at the park who sponsor several events a year. It's a lovely place of oaks, Spanish moss, and much wildlife.
Being within a few miles of Orlando and Disney World, we are a bit disappointed that the animals are not as helpful as Disney makes them out to be. We grew up with those wonderful cartoons of birds hanging laundry and cute squirrels and deer helping with chores. Not so in real life. Most are aloof to our needs and in fact the raccoons are more prone to cavorting through the kitchen at night, overturning containers and looting our larder.
On the upside, the owls serenade us at night, coyotes howl and cardinals brighten our day by perching on our counters and scolding us for invading their territory. The Withlacoochie river nearby has good fishing and the occasional gator. Deer and armadillos browse the many great hiking trails in the area, and we are amused often with the antics of the gopher turtles burrowing in the sand in the field around our camper.
We cooked for two events here, the annual Dade Rendezvous and a new event for us, the Flint Knappers gathering, Both of these events feature exceptionally talented people showing sharing their skills with the public and having a great time. We will be attending these events next year, so stay tuned for event dates next Winter.
We have set up this Blog to keep in touch with our friends, family and customers as we travel throughout the year cooking for historic events. We will try to keep you updated to our coming events as well as our personal activities.
